Voice over and local contextualisation of Khan Academy videos in Hindi

The Model

National Institute of Open Schooling is running a pilot project on providing curriculum-linked Khan Academy videos in Hindi language. The pilot involves translating 51 Maths videos mapped to the senior secondary curriculum. These videos will be made available to students online as well as on DVDs distributed directly or via accredited institutions. They are also accessible under Khan Academy Hindi Channel on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/user/KhanAcademyHindi.

Khan Academy is a nonprofit with the mission of providing a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. It has developed a repository of over 5000 free, videos to learn Mathematics and other subjects.

Systemic Impact

Through this project, NIOS aims to strengthen its repository of Open Education Resources. By curating high quality global content and contextualizing it for their learners, it aims to provide an engaging self-learning experience to them. These resources will also be available in public domain as free and open resources.

In order to explore the potential of open digital learning content to provide conceptual learning to students, CSF is working closely with Khan Academy to repurpose their content for Indian needs. We have translated 100 Maths videos in Indian-accented English, and made them available on Khan Academy’s YouTube Channel. We have partnered with NIOS to pilot the Khan Academy curriculum in Hindi.
