On February 20, 2014, Central Square Foundation co-hosted a conference with Samhita Social Ventures and the Department for International Development (DFID) aimed at helping companies contribute effectively to the education sector. The conference brought together representatives from leading companies, NGOs and foundations.
Keynote speaker Luis Miranda, Director of Samhita, and speakers from various NGOs, corporations, foundations and government institutions explained major challenges in the education system and the importance of corporate support for innovative solutions to these challenges.
A panel of business and education leaders focused their discussion on identifying interventions that can directly impact education quality such as school leadership, teacher training, community engagement and remediation programmes. The panelists also addressed challenges and success factors for these interventions.
The conference also included an interactive case study workshop that presented participants with an opportunity to practice designing a CSR strategy including choosing a focus area and a particular intervention.
